CHEROKEE-E

I picked this up a while back but never posted it. Ya ya ya...it's another Hobby Lobby only kit.

It's a nice D motor kit but having grabbed the Red Nova I may return this and buy some more motors.

RIP Power Patrol

Power Patrol, though you had a short life you were greatly loved by my youngest. You had an extremely tame first flight with an A8-3 motor. Our decision to use a C6-5 for the second launch was exciting at first, going high and straight. Then you drifted towards the trees which consumed you without a trace. There was sadness close to becoming tears.

No disrespect, but mentioning a trip to the store to get a new rocket eased the emotions.

Rocket Day - Bond Park

Rocket Day at Bond Park was this past Saturday. We had a great time. It started to rain a little when we were leaving the house which worried me, but it stopped about half way to the park. It was overcast for our timeslot, so it wasn't too hot and only a slight breeze.

The kids and I launched some old and new rockets. Unfortunately we ran out of time and getting hungry so we didn't get a change to launch my Nike-X.

First Time Launches included: Power Patrol, Phantom Blue, Spirit and Crossfire ISX.

We had 9 launches total.

Model Rocket Kid Build

The kids and I assembled the 3 clearance kits. I have kids from preK through to Middle School, so the level of involvement was varied.

The Spirit kit came with clay for the Nose Cone. I felt the other two kits were very light so I added some Sculpey clay to the those as well. I usually add a little superglue to hopefully secure the clay to the inside of the Nose Cone.

Then I helped the kids move the Shock Cord. It was secure on the inside of the tube with the pre assembled Launch Lugs. This placed it very close to the motor and my fear was that the Ejection Charge would melt it. I cut the cord flush with the inside of the barrel. Had the kids cut out long trapezoids from basic printer paper and helped them secure the Shock Cords to the Nose Cone end of the tube.

All set for Rocket Day tomorrow at Bond Park. I figure if we launch each rocket two times tomorrow (Dad has some rockets to launch as well, it's not all about the kids!) the total cost is about $10 per rocket which includes the kit, motors and recovery wadding.

Hopefully the rain and wind cooperates during our timeslot!

RED NOVA

New kit for Hobby Lobby. Not new to Estes, just haven't seen it for sale at HL until yesterday.
You had me at D12-5...

GOBLIN

Stopped in the HL again and saw that they now stock the Goblin. This is very nice D powered rocket. I have one myself. Messed up the build slightly, but it still turned out great. I will post some pictures later.

When we launched my Goblin last week it went so high that we thought it was lost. Then at least a minute later we finally saw it coming down with it's orange streamers.

EPIC II at Hobby Lobby

EPIC II is a two stage Estes Kit found only at Hobby Lobby. Again not my favorite store but I cannot resist these kits at such ideal prices. I never had a multi-stage rocket as a kid but wanted one so badly. Now that's I'm an adult I can do what I want...ha ha. I originally was looking at the Estes Sterling Silver, but saw that this was the same rocket with a new name and color scheme...no brainer!

Hope I have time before Rocket Day to get this built!

Additional details...

    Length:  22in / 55.9cm
Diameter:  0.74in / 19mm
Recovery:  Streamer 30in / 76.2cm

... exact same as the Sterling Silver's.
